The winners of the Boston GlobeHorn Book Awards, given jointly by both publications to outstanding works of children’s and young adult literature, have been revealed.

The winner of the picture book award was I Know How To Draw an Owl, written by Hilary Horder Hippely and illustrated by Matt James. Two honor books in the category were also named: Nose to Nose, written and illustrated by Thyra Heder, and My Daddy Is a Cowboy, written by Stephanie Seales and illustrated by C. G. Esperanza.

Winning the fiction prize was Randy Ribay for Everything We Never Had, which was previously longlisted for the National Book Award. The fiction honor books were Guojing’s Oasis and Andrew Joseph White’s Compound Fracture.

The nonfiction winner was Death in the Jungle: Murder, Betrayal, and the Lost Dream of Jonestown by Candace Fleming. Named as nonfiction honor books were Uprooted: A Memoir About What Happens When Your Family Moves Back by Ruth Chan and Up, Up, Ever Up!: Junko Tabei: A Life in the Mountains, written by Anita Yasuda and illustrated by Yuko Shimizu.

The Boston GlobeHorn Book Awards, presented by the Boston Globe newspaper and Horn Book magazine, were established in 1967. Previous winners include A Wizard of Earthsea by Ursula K. Le Guin, Holes by Louis Sachar, and King and the Dragonflies by Kacen Callender.
