Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Laufey will make her literary debut with a children’s book coming in 2026, the Associated Press reports.
Penguin Workshop will publish the Icelandic musician’s Mei Mei the Bunny, illustrated by Lauren O’Hara, next spring. The press describes it as “a bewitching picture book about overcoming mistakes and believing in oneself.”
Laufey started performing music as a child, appearing on the Icelandic television programs Ísland Got Talent and The Voice Iceland as a teenager. She made her recording debut in 2021 with the EP Typical of Me and released her first full-length album, Everything I Know About Love, the following year.
She won a Grammy award for her 2023 album Bewitched, and her latest record, A Matter of Time, came out in August.
Laufey has her own book club; her selections have included Claire Keegan’s Small Things Like These, Ian McEwan’s Atonement, and R.F. Kuang’s Katabasis.
Mei Mei the Bunny will tell the story of the titular young rabbit, who is nervous about appearing at the H’Opera House to play her music and must overcome an initial wrong note.
Laufey announced news of the book on the social platform X, writing, “The story of a little bunny who dreams of making the world happy with her music! Mei Mei has been a part of my life over the last few years and opening up the world around her has been the most beautiful exploration!”
Mei Mei the Bunny is slated for publication on April 21, 2026.
