Regé-Jean Page is bringing Elissa Sussman’s Funny You Should Ask to the small screen, Deadline reports.
Sussman’s novel, published in 2022 by Dell, follows Chani Horowitz, a journalist hired to write a profile of Gabe Parker, a movie star who plays James Bond. Ten years after the profile is published, Chani and Gabe reunite for a second interview. In a starred review, a critic for Kirkus called the book “a slow-burn romance full of passion, yearning, and behind-the-scenes Hollywood details.”
Page is best known for his role as Simon Basset in the first season of Bridgerton, the Netflix series based on Julia Quinn’s historical romance novels. He’ll play Gabe Parker in Funny You Should Ask, which is being developed by Apple. Page himself is often mentioned as a potential new James Bond, with actor Michael Fassbender endorsing him for the role, saying he would be “fantastic.”
Page will also executive produce the series along with Rachel Alter, the Outer Banks writer who is penning the adaptation.
Sussman shared news of the adaptation on Instagram, writing, “Dream come true!! Thank you so much to the incredible @regejean for bringing FUNNY YOU SHOULD ASK to life. So beyond glad this story is in such great hands.”
