National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature Mac Barnett has announced the dates for his upcoming fall tour.
Barnett will visit four cities as part of his “Behold, the Picture Book! Let’s Celebrate Stories We Can Feel, Hear, and See” initiative, the Library of Congress announced in a news release.
Barnett, the prolific author of children’s books, including the popular First Cat in Space series, illustrated by Shawn Harris, was appointed as the ninth National Ambassador for Young People’s Literature in February, succeeding Meg Medina.
His fall tour will kick off on September 23 at the Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover, Pennsylvania. On October 14, he will visit Concord Junior High School in Elkhart, Indiana, and on October 23, he is scheduled to appear at Alvin ISD Liberty Alumni Hall in Manvel, Texas. His tour will conclude on October 25 at North Carolina A&T State University’s Harrison Auditorium in Greensboro, North Carolina.
“I love reading out loud to kids—it’s what made me want to become a children’s author—so I’m excited to get out there and share some of my favorite picture books,” Barnett said. “But I’m just as eager to talk to adults about this great art form, to discuss how meaningful and powerful picture books are.”
